“House of Pan” Steel Pan Band

BVMP is proud to announce our first ever class at Horace O’Bryant School! Sponsored in part by the Florida Keys Council of the Arts, “House of Pan” Steel Pan Band will be led by beloved director Nora Revelin and hosted by HOB School. “House of Pan” Steel Pan Band members will learn to express themselves on the tropical instrument that originated in the Caribbean. Students will learn to collaborate with their peers through music, note reading, rhythms and song arranging. Students will play on Tenor Pans, Double Guitar Pans and Bass Pans to create joyful sounds through layers and harmony. Open for students grades 3-8.

School of Rock

Thursdays 4:00-5:00

Led by local musicians Derik Reay & James Whitehead, School of Rock, sponsored by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, will be a fantastic way for our young musicians to collaborate with their peers, learn new songs, and create a full scale rock band. Students will learn to play with others and rock out!

Joyful Voices Choir

Wednesdays 4:00-5:00

Joyful Voices Choir is not just a great opportunity for children to learn how to sing in a group, but students will also learn to appreciate music, harmonize with their peers and aspects of music theory like tempo, dynamics and parts of song with new Choir Director Katchen Duncan. Open enrollment for ages 6 and up.

Older Voices Choir

Wednesdays 5:00-6:00

Older Voices is open for students 5th grade and above and focuses on a cappella techniques, blending harmonies and sight singing.

Music Theory and Improvisation

Mondays 3:00-4:00

Jazz Ensemble
Mondays 4:00-5:00

Led by BVMP president and Berklee College of Music Alumni Larry Baeder, Music Theory and Improvisation students will learn the language of music through scale and chord study and group improvisation. Jazz Ensemble follows with opportunities to play in a group setting as well as show off the improvisation techniques learned in music theory. Open enrollment for ages 12 and up.

Suzuki Strings

Fridays 3:45-4:30 ages 6-9 4:30-5:15 ages 10 and up

Led by Shana Gaskill of Keys String Music, Suzuki Violin & Cello was a new program for the 2014-2015 school year and it was so popular we had to expand to two classes! Students will learn violin or cello through the Suzuki method, which focuses on parent involvement and ear training. Open enrollment for ages 6 and up.

Ukulele Orchestra

Thursdays 5:00-6:00

The BVMP Ukulele Orchestra led by Ms Katchen and sponsored in part by the Green Parrot and the Grateful Guitar, is a wonderful class for kids who love the ukulele! Students will learn chords, rhythm and strum patterns on one of the trendiest instruments. Open enrollment for ages 8 and up.

Piano Lessons

Weekly Half-hour one on one lessons Monday- Friday 3:00- 6:00

Piano students are paired with a student teacher or adult music mentor and scheduled for their weekly piano lessons. Students will learn the basics of their instrument, including reading music, note values, chords and scales, and songs of their choice. Open to all skill levels and scheduled according to availability, ages 6 and up.

Guitar Lessons

Weekly 30 minute one-on-one lessons Monday- Friday 3:00- 6:00

Guitar students are encouraged to learn chords and strum patterns as well as rhythms and finger picking styles. Classes are scheduled according to skill level and availability and open for ages 8 and up.

Woodwinds & Brass Lessons

Saxophone, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Trumpet or Trombone

Weekly 30 minute one-on-one lessons Monday - Friday 3:00-6:00

Drum Lessons

30 minute weekly lessons Monday - Thursdays 3:00-6:00
