School of Rock

Thursdays 5:00-6:00 (temporarily on hold)

School of Rock, initially sponsored by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, is a fantastic way for our young musicians to collaborate with their peers, learn new songs, and create a full scale rock band. Students will learn to play with others and rock out!

Joyful Voices Choir

Wednesdays 4:00-5:00 HAS RESUMED!!

Joyful Voices Choir, Sponsored by the Larry Dion Foundation, is not just a great opportunity for children to learn how to sing in a group, but students will also learn to appreciate music, harmonize with their peers and aspects of music theory like tempo, dynamics and parts of song with Choir Director Katchen Duncan. Open enrollment for ages 6 and up.

Older Voices Choir

Wednesdays 5:00-6:00 HAS RESUMED!!

Older Voices is open for students 5th grade and above and focuses on a cappella techniques, blending harmonies and sight singing. Sponsored by the Larry Dion Foundation.

Ukulele Orchestra

Thursdays 4:00-5:00 HAS RESUMED!!

The BVMP Ukulele Orchestra led by Ms Katchen and sponsored in part by the Green Parrot and the Grateful Guitar, is a wonderful class for kids who love the ukulele! Students will learn chords, rhythm and strum patterns on one of the trendiest instruments. Open enrollment for ages 8 and up.

Dance Key West Dance & Technique

Dance Key West is thrilled to offer weekly dance & technique classes onsite at Bahama Village Music Program. Designed to educate and inspire, our curriculum includes ballet, jazz, African, contemporary, hip hop, composition & dance history.

Music Theory and Improvisation

Mondays 3:00-4:00

Led by BVMP president and Berklee College of Music Alumni Larry Baeder, Music Theory and Improvisation students will learn the language of music through scale and chord study and group improvisation. Jazz Ensemble follows with opportunities to play in a group setting as well as show off the improvisation techniques learned in music theory. Open enrollment for ages 12 and up.

Group Strings

Fridays 3:45-4:30

Led by Marci Rose, students will learn violin in an ensemble class. Open enrollment for ages 6 and up.

Junior Junkanoos

Mondays & Thursdays 4-6pm

Junior Junkanoos is BVMP’s newest program, in collaboration with Key West Junkanoos, and we are so proud to help keep this Caribbean tradition alive! Led by Harold Pelote and sponsored by the Old Island Restoration Foundation, Florida Keys Council of the Arts and Fantasy Fest, rehearsals on Mondays and Thursdays at the Frederick Douglass Gym begin on August 26th.

Piano Lessons

Weekly Half-hour one on one lessons Monday- Friday 3:00- 6:00

Piano students are paired with a student teacher or adult music mentor and scheduled for their weekly piano lessons. Students will learn the basics of their instrument, including reading music, note values, chords and scales, and songs of their choice. Open to all skill levels and scheduled according to availability, ages 6 and up.

Guitar Lessons

Weekly 30 minute one-on-one lessons Monday- Friday 3:00- 6:00

Guitar students are encouraged to learn chords and strum patterns as well as rhythms and finger picking styles. Classes are scheduled according to skill level and availability and open for ages 8 and up.

Woodwinds & Brass Lessons

Saxophone, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Trumpet or Trombone

Weekly 30 minute one-on-one lessons Monday - Friday 3:00-6:00

Drum Lessons

30 minute weekly lessons Monday - Friday 3:00-6:00

Outreach Programs

​The following programs take place at Horace O’Bryant School, part of our outreach into the community to further our mission of music for every child.

“House of Pan” Steel Pan Band

Daily before school and after school
At HOB School (resumes in November 2021)

BVMP is thrilled to continue “House of Pan” Steel Pan Band thanks to the United Way of the Florida Keys! “House of Pan” is led by beloved director Nora Revelin and hosted by HOB School. “House of Pan” Steel Pan Band members will learn to express themselves on the tropical instrument that originated in the Caribbean. Students will learn to collaborate with their peers through music, note reading, rhythms and song arranging. Students will play on Tenor Pans, Double Guitar Pans and Bass Pans to create joyful sounds through layers and harmony. Percussionists and Singers round out the band! Open for students grades 3-8.

Keys Kids Jr

​Thanks to the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys and other supporters, Keys Kids is back as Keys Kids Jr! Rehearsals will begin in January at HOB and culminate with performances in March/April. Students will act, direct and produce a beloved musical complete with set building, costume making and light design helped by some of Key West’s favorite theater people! This year’s production will be Music Man Jr.!
